Soza,Examine ways that a DNP-prepared nurse can be more involved in strategic management decisions. The nursing profession has transformed and expanded from the bedside to several levels of involvement within society. Nurses are expected to continue their education and obtain a terminal degree. With the evolution of nursing and the development of our careers, health gaps have been reduced significantly. Doctorally prepared nurses are the light at the end of the tunnel for patients socially determined to have lower-quality or limited access to healthcare. DNP nurses need to assume leadership roles to be more involved in strategic management decisions regardless of their official title. Nurses need to lead the way in healthcare. We understand the needs of our patients; we spend hours listening, assessing, and intervening to improve their health outcomes. Mentoring new nurses is another way to become a respected leader. While Leadership and mentoring are great ways to become an active member in strategic management, being politically active is also essential. Health policy is where the most vital decisions are made (IOM, 2011). If nurses take part in that process, the result will be a revamped health system.Explore initiatives and strategies that the DNP-prepared nurse can employ to build a culture of quality and safety. The National Credentialing Center (NCC) has created a certification for quality and safety to recognized nurses who are experts in this field. This initiative encourages experienced nurses to become mentors with a certificate to show their knowledge and value. Several organizations have bonuses and competencies ladder to incentive nurses to become certified. Practicing evidence-based work rather than on sacred cows is the way to build a culture of quality and safety (Barnsteiner, J,2011).-Danay SosaReferencesBarnsteiner, J., (September 30, 2011) “Teaching the Culture of Safety” OJIN: The Online Journal of Issues in Nursing Vol. 16, No. 3, Manuscript 5.
