Management Team Briefing on Employment Laws

Overview

In your new role as chief human resources officer (CHRO) for a major retail organization, you have been tasked by the CEO to conduct a presentation to the management team on employment law awareness within your first 30 days. The CEO informed you that under the previous CHRO, the company was subject to legal action resulting from lack of knowledge of employment law, which had unfavorable outcomes. Avoiding similar experiences is a high priority, and your thorough presentation to the management team is the first big step to success.

Instructions

Prepare a 15 slide PowerPoint presentation in which you:

1. Include cover, agenda, conclusion, and reference list slides, all of which may count toward total slide count.

2. Provide a 1–2 slide overview of employment law based on information found in Chapter 1 of Employment Law for Human Resource Practice (attached below). Note: You may use your discretion to decide which information needs to be addressed as long as your overview is descriptive and relevant.

3. Include in the remaining slides the following required presentation information:

  • A crisis is an opportunity for learning and change within an organization. Explain organizational learning and the difference between single-loop and double-loop learning. What examples of barriers to learning have you seen where you work?
  • There are three levels of learning outcomes after a crisis. What are the three levels and apply each to the degree of learning, future impacts on the organization, and the strategy posture towards crisis management.
  • During a crisis, why do you think ethical behavior should be demonstrated by an organization? What are some best practices that can be implemented to change the ethical culture?
  • Discuss why team learning is as important as individual learning in crisis management situations. What is meant by the idea of building resilience through redundancy?

The expectations are lower for a draft version as opposed to the Final Project. Subsequently, this evaluation will give you some general information about your Project. A good score on your draft does not necessarily mean you will get a good score on your final Project. Your final submission next week will be evaluated using a more detailed grading rubric.

Chapter 10 discusses situational awareness. Much of the security efforts of the past have been centered around prevention and protection. The increasing sophistication of cyber attacks have shown that no controls are 100% effective, and some compromises do occur. There is a rising realization that in addition to considering prevention and protection, controls that address detection and response are necessary to improve security posture. Please describe how situational awareness is a driver for detection and response controls.
